GLOBAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
At SMU, we aspire to have 100% of our students embark on at least one global exposure experience before graduating to nurture global citizenship and global readiness.
A member of the Academic Services and Operations group, the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO) plays a central role in driving global exposure participation through our deeply immersive and meaningful signature global education programmes.
GEO’s semester exchange (ISEP) and short-term study programmes (SSP) link our students to over 220 universities across the globe and we are committed to continuously enhancing support and providing new opportunities for students.
We are equally pleased to host more than 1,000 international students each year on semester-long exchange, summer, and winter programmes, showcasing the best of SMU to the world.
International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP) @SMU
- Spend up to two academic terms studying at Singapore’s only City Campus university
- Experience SMU's interactive pedagogy and experiential learning in small, seminar-style classes
- Tackle real-world challenges through interdisciplinary SMU-X courses
- Grow a diverse network of friends and contacts in Singapore, your gateway to Asia
Visiting Student Programme (VSP)
- Spend one academic term studying at Singapore’s only university in the city
- Experience interactive pedagogy and experiential learning in small seminar-style classes
- Tackle real-world challenges through interdisciplinary SMU-X courses
- Grow a diverse network of friends and contacts in Singapore – the gateway to Asia
Global Summer Programme (GSP)
- Spend four weeks with SMU professors and international students, gathering new insights into Asia, Sustainability and Digital Intelligence
- Read up to two courses and earn credits towards your studies
- Experience 36 contact hours per course, spread over three interactive seminar style classes per week
- Sign up if you are an undergraduate or a recent graduate
Study Abroad
International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP)
- More than 220 partner universities worldwide to choose from
- Spend one academic term abroad and broaden your life experience
- Earn up to five academic credits towards your SMU degree programme
- Tap on scholarships to support your endeavour abroad
Study Abroad
Short-Term Study Programme (SSP)
- Study and live abroad for two to four weeks during SMU’s term breaks
- Earn up to two academic credits towards your SMU degree programme
- Go global in your first year at SMU – SSPs are available to Year One students too
- Enjoy the camaraderie of SMU peers on customised SSP programmes
Local Exchange
Singapore Universities Student Exchange Programme (SUSEP)
- Experience student life in another university for a semester
- Expose yourself to diverse pedagogical styles
- Interact with faculty across disciplines and campuses
- Grow your local network of friends and contacts
